Fire Police

Fire Police are an important part of our community. Correctly termed ‘Special Fire police’, they have limited powers of law control to enable them to protect the public, protect the firefighters at a fire scene and provide traffic and crowd control.

Pennsylvania is one of only a few states to recognize Fire Police.

The Fire Police often bear the brunt of the public’s frustration and are trained to calmly deal with abusive and sometimes aggressive persons who complain that they are delayed or detoured because of a road closure. Please bear in mind that these volunteers are just that, volunteers, and would rather be going about their day-to-day activities than be stood out in the middle of the road, or freezing/boiling hot days with 7000lb “missiles” coming at them, only to be abused by a frustrated driver.
